Hope

Yesterday I read one of the most moving posts written by a young woman, who had been bought through ‘trafficking to go into forced prostitution.’ I was so inspired by her message I have to pass the link on.

I have often wondered how these women and sometimes young girls survive, that’s if they survive at all.

The message I got from her story was that she never gave up hope.  She had a vision of how she wanted her life to be and found her freedom in writing poetry.  She hung onto her vision and today she is free from the ten years of prostitution, working on a film about her life and trafficking of women.

This woman knew she was broken into a million pieces ” It doesn’t mean you are so miserably flawed that you can’t do anything but be a hooker. Being a hooker doesn’t make you subhuman.  It’s not OK for your (white) pimps to smack you and tell you they’ll kill you.” She goes on further to say “Being vulnerable means you’re alive.   There’s no shame in it.  It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person.  You don’t have to apologize for doing what you must to survive.”

I have known many despairing women who have finally been able to escape  a marriage where they were physically, mentally and sexually abused, being nothing more than legal prostitutes for their husbands (pimps)

Sometimes out of the deepest despair comes hope.

Give yourself the freedom to have hope of a new life, a better job, a better way of life for your kids, hope of giving and receiving love, keep a journal to write  your hope for the day, hope of changing anything in your power to change.

Even if you can’t feel it yet, say it a thousand times a day. Change will come about because having hope means your’e not giving up!
